Every year it seems that the world is going more crazy.  Just when you think things can't get worse, they often do.
Since I'm not a psychologist or therapist, I'm not going to lecture about seeing the positive side of things or the silver lining

In times of trouble, many people lock or hunker down. I've often been told that French women don't sell their jewelry in times of trouble. Hold on until better days. Hunker down. 

When nasty news looms, some people build underground bunkers and some store a cache of valuable "just in case".  You could buy bricks of gold, but surely jewelry is easier to sew into your petticoats. Antique jewelry is a historic form of portable wealth.
