Our society seems to have mixed feelings about Father's Day.
Do we take Father's Day seriously? Is Father's Day a sort of p.c. obligation? Is Father's Day just a token gesture because if Mother's can have their day, then surely, fathers should by rights, have theirs too.
We are constantly told about the significance of the role fathers play in bringing up their children. Not only do we see many single Dads/Dads without Moms doing a great and challenging job, but we know that role reversal has become much more common in society at large. Even when the parents are a Mom and Dad, it might just be Dad who is the nurterer. A Dad might not be a biological Dad, but a father-figure who does just as important a job. Maybe a special word of thanks to these special people.

Parents of either gender sacrifice a great deal of their time, emotions, energy and resources of every type in order to do good with their offspring. Ok, not every man is hands on, but there are a lot of dads out there who are and they need to be recognised, encouraged and thanked. Father's Day is an opportunity to recognise these special men in our lives.
