Mt Washington Royal Flemish Glass Biscuit Jar Mythologica Griffin Dolphin (4823)
Mt Washington Royal Flemish Glass Biscuit Jar Mythologica Griffin Dolphin (4823)
Antique Glass Biscuit Jar / Cracker Barrel. Royal Flemish made 1890's by Mt Washington.
Height approx 5 and a bit inches to top of the glass and 7 1/4 inches to top of the finial.
Barrel shaped. Classic Royal Flemish gold tube lined sections in pinks and golds with tones of green and a lot of gold highlights. The front depicts a marvelous griffin - a mythological creature with eagle wings and talons. The back has a curved dolphin or monster mythological serpent fish. The glass is divided into colours in reserves clearly influenced by Persian design - like the windows of an Arabian building. Scrolling foliage and bubbles in the Art Nouveau taste provide further adornment. Simple silver plate / metal neck and lid with clover-looped handle.
Not signed, as is the case with most Royal Flemish pieces.
Very good condition. There are a few minor losses to the raised gold lining, but no chips/cracks/damage of any sort.
