Carlo Giuliano Antique Cameo Brooch 18k Gold Carved Agate Victorian (7121)

Antique Victorian brooch pendant. 18k yellow gold and carved agate. Made in London by Carlo Giuliano, circa 1880.

Measurements: Weight is 20.4 grams. Approximately 1 5/8 inches (5cm) long.

Description : Oval agate with a brown ground and white upper layer is hand carved to depict a woman in profile. She is a great beauty and has masses of curly hair piled up on her head, rolled at the back and held with ribbons with tendrils curling at her ears. Very much in the Ancient Greek and Roman taste. A beaded necklace sits at the nape of her neck. Bifoliate drop earrings dangle from the lobe of her ears. Fabulous, fine detail to the carving. The cameo is set in a gold frame with gold baubels radiating on stems of gold all around the perimeter. Strong design. Hinged c-clasp. The back of the mount has small loops, which can also be used to thread a chain or ribbon through the cameo and thus wear it as a pendant.

Marks and Metal: CG signature mark is found on the inside of the hinge, where it is typically to be found on Giuliano brooches. Gold is not marked. We acid tested the gold to ensure metal purity.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. An old, superficial scratch on the cameo can be polished off. We have left it out of respect for the age and integrity of the original carving. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
