Art Nouveau ormolu cut crystal deskset double inkwell with pen holder.
French, 19th century.
Measures 5 3/4inches accross. 3 1/2inches front to back.
Serpentine shape with double ink wells and slot for pen. Fine French cut crystal base mounted in gilt bronze with gilt bronze caps and necks to inkwells. Base and bottom of inkwells have openwork metal acorn and oak leaf patterns. Tops of lids with beautiful dancing classic nymphs. Long hair flowing, diaphenous dresses float out.
Back mount with very fine moulded swags of flowers overlapping scrolling foliage that ends in gryphon heads. Surmounted by an oak leaf.
No marks or signature found.
Condition good considering age and use. There are minor/negligible dings and some of the bottom metal border has clear signs of soldering. Hinges are firm, glass base with no chips/cracks. See pictures for details.
