Antique vintage jade pendant. Light green celadon jade. Believed to originate in China, early to mid 20th century.
Measurements: Weight is 28.0 grams. 3 inches long (a little under 8cm).
Description : A large leaf-shaped pendant. Round top narrows towards the bottom. Carving includes Chinese symbols, including a spiritual wheel (Buddhist?) and a lovely pair of facing exotic birds with long tails. Classic Chinese trelliswork in the center. Some sections are carved right through the jade and others are fairly shallow. The jade itself is highly transluscent - almost completely transparent. The pale green color is called celudon after that shade of pottery.
The pendant has a silver loop and chain that are later additions and included for the new owner's convenience.
Jade seems to be a highly controversial gem. I love the transparency and glowing light of this pendant, other people find it insipid.
Marks and Metal: none.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. There is a light graze on one upper edge (no depth, approx 1mm in length) - mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
