Antique Victorian Micromosaic Earrings Ear Pendant Silver Micro Mosaics (6556)

Antique Victorian Napoleon III ear pendants / earrings. Micro mosaics and silver. Made circa 1870. Origin unknown - bought in Paris from the collection of a very old lady.

Measurements: A little under 2 1/4 inches (5.4cm) long. Combined weight is 17.4 grams.

Description : Classic, elegant ear pendants with exceptionally fine micromosaic surmounts and drops. Plain silver mounts to show off the black boders and botanic subject to best effect with forked chains connecting upper part and drops. The surmounts are round, the drops are much larger and 'full' oval in shape. The black borders may be an excuse for half mourning, but is most likely used for their extreme elegance. The floral themed micromosaics are delightful in their quality and aesthetic appeal. They depict a host of flower varieties and colors, all very finely worked in tiny tesserae. Micromosaics of a soft earthy tan color form the background.

Marks: No marks.

Condition: The black borders have minor wear / superficial loss, but the tesserae appear to be all present with no loss at all to the micromosaics. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
