Antique Victorian Earrings Brooch Jewelry Set 18k Gold Amethysts Pearls (6906)

Antique Victorian demi parure consisting of matching brooch (with locket) and earrings. 18k yellow gold, cabochon amethysts and small pearls.

 

Measurements: Weight is 19.4 grams. Brooch a little over 1 1/2 inches (4cm) long; earrings just under 1/1/4 inches (3.25cm) long.

 

Description : Gently Revivalist appearance. Navette shapes - like ovals with pointed instead of rounded ends, edged with rope-twist gold filigree. The gold sweeps up from the margins to a sharp fold following an oval shape. A moat like drop leads to the centers, which have rope-twist gold filigree borders surrounding collette-set cabochon amethysts. The purple gems are set at their apex with small pearls within gold stars, impressed into the gems. Trifoil shaped appendages arch from centers to sides, appearing to link them, subtly echoing Gothic forms and foliage, with engraved surface texture that adds further interest. Golden spheres alternate with the arching Gothic foliage.

 

Earrings are suspended from loops beneath surmounts that echo the Gothic-like shapes linking other sections. Gold granulation adds interest and is typical of the Revival period, as does the rope-twist filigree. Earrings swing freely as the wearer moves so that light continuously catches the amethysts and plays with the tone and color of the stones. Long gold wires are easy to insert and comfortable to wear.

 

The back has a generous gold border, showing the rope-twist filigree and a ridge that can be lifted to access a locket. The locket contains very finely woven hair of a loved one. A hinged pin with c-clasp is in very good order and appears to be original to the brooch. 

 

 

 

Comes in beautifully shaped, original red leather box with green silk and velvet inside.

 

Marks and Metal: acid tested 18k (tested brooch and earrings)

 

Condition: Very good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. The box is lightly scuffed, but the silk and velvet are in very good shape and considering its age and use a lovely addition to have the original box.
