Antique Victorian earrings ear pendants. 18k gold, turquoise and pearls. Made in England, circa 1865-80.

Measurements: Weight is 10.9 grams. Length, not including wires is approximately 2 inches (5cm).

Description : Designed as slinky cascading chandeliers, composed of turquoise cabochons and pearls set in bright yellow gold fine scrolls that seem to float around the gems. Minute beading on gold wires and small golden globes hark back at the cannetille work of the 1820's. Turquoise are of a remarkably uniform tone of blue - remarkable because after so many years, turquoise often discolors and these stones have held their beauty over the centuries. Pretty pearls can be presumed to be natural as there were no cultured pearls at the time these earrings were made.

The consecutive sections of the earrings are linked by small rings of gold that allow for total flexibility and a silky, slinky, luxurious sense of flowing movement. Later wires make earrings easy to insert and comfortable to wear.

Gorgeous looking and highly versatile.

Marks and Metal: no marks, as is to be expected. Gold was acid tested. The earrings are 18k gold. The wire fittings, which are later replacements are 14k gold.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. The tiniest turquoise drop at the bottom of one earrings is slightly mottled, so it might be a replacement. One of the topmost stones is rough on the edges. These tiny imperfections are mentioned for the sake of accuracy and do not impinge on the appearance of the earrings. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
