Antique Victorian earrings / ear pendants. 14k yellow gold. Made in England (United Kingdom) circa 1842 - 1867).

Measurements: Weight is 4.8 grams (combined). Length is approximately 2 1/4 inches (a little under 6cm). They are long.

Description : Exceptionally lovely butterfly earrings. Unusually, the butterflies are seen from the side. Wings are shown in 3-d - spatially one above the other - with fine engraved detail to each. Bodies, naturalistically modelled arch around a curving twig with a pair of antennae that curl up and twirl around gracefully. The 'twig' suspends a trio of curling branches, each with tiny loops suspending long, elongated fruit/berry forms that swing and sway indepedently with every movement of the wearer. Wires are probably replaced, typical of earrings from this period. Wires are easy to insert and comfortable to wear. Fabulously versatile - these earrings can be worn with any outfit from jeans to a party, and are suitable to ladies of every age. During the Victorian period, butterflies were filled with symbolism, not only the obvious metamorphism, but were thought to represent the soul. Graceful and beautiful.

Marks and Metal: English Registry mark on the backs. Kite-shaped with Rd, used 1842 - 1867. The details of the old marks are not legible or we might know more about the exact date and maker.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Replaced wires - see above. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
