Antique Victorian brooch 18k gold French Bulldog Safety Pin Unisex Clasp (7325)

Antique Victorian brooch safety pin clasp. 18k gold. Made in France, circa 1880-90.
Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman.

Measurements: Weight is 6.8 grams. Length a tad over 2 inches (5.2cm).

Description : Made in the form of a safety pin with an extra secure clasp that is very easy to slip the pin in/out of.
The upper surface adorned with a fully formed head of a French Bulldog. Beautiful, naturalistic modelling - very realistic and easily identifiable as a French Bulldog.
Pins in the form of Safety Pins were popular during the 19th century, when people wore shawls and cloaks. They securely fastened the two sides of the garment, without any danger of pricking or hurting the wearer. Perfect also for holding a man's tie in place and making a great statement.

Marks and Metal: Eagle head for French 18k gold; unclear Maker's mark lozenge.
