Antique Victorian Blackamoor Brooch Pendant Cameo 18k Gold Garnets (6669)

Antique Victorian brooch pendant enhancer. 18k gold, cabochon garnets and hardstone cameo. Made in France circa 1860-80. 

Measurements: Length is approximately 1 5/8 inches (40mm). Weight is 16.4 grams.

Description : Classic Revival jewel that serves as a pendant enhancer or brooch. Oval in shape with borders of very finely modelled detail. Within the pair of gold borders is a ring of wonderful red cabochon garnets. Finally, the reserve in the middle is set with a cameo depicting a blackamoor in profile. High cheek bones, finely chiselled lips, beautifully detailed hair and ear. Expression of nobility and great sadness. Wonderful quality. There is a curved hook to suspend the pendant/enhancer and a hinged pin with a c-clasp.

Marks: Partially legible owl mark indicates French origin and 18k gold. A mark on the pin itself is unknown.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. The pin appears to have been re-attached/replaced at some time and there are small signs of solder near the base of the pin. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
