Antique Victorian caduceus brooch pendant. Gold, silver, diamonds, emeralds, pearls. Made circa 1880. Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman.
Independent appraisal.

Measurements: Weight is 13.7 grams. 0.80ct colored stones; 5.4ct diamonds. Approximately 2x2inches.

Description : The caduceus was the symbol of the Greek god, Hermes and became the symbol for medicine and doctors in later years. This superb example has all the bells and whistles, notably the beautiful intertwining snakes surrounding the central staff leading to a pair of slightly raised wings. Snakes and wings in diamonds. Staff in emeralds. Silver over gold, typical of the Victorian era. Pearls at either end of the staff. Gleams and glitters.
Hinged pin with c-clasp as well as bale/loop so that it can be hung as a pendant. The bale is also hinged so that it tucks in when worn as a brooch. Very beautiful workmanship can be seen by looking at the back.
The design, workmanship, materials and relatively large size make this brooch an exquisite standout.
Suitable for a man or a woman. A true collector's jewel.

Marks and Metal: Pin is marked for 14k gold 585 with another 2 hallmarks, that look like a sword and a hammer/hatchet.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
