Antique Earrings 18k gold diamonds French dormeuse sleepers versatile (7237)

Antique late Victorian - Belle Epoque earrings. 18k gold, platinum and diamonds. Made in France early 20th century.

Measurements: Weight is 4.3 grams. Approximately 5/8 inch (1.5cm) long, not including wires.

Description : Classic French earrings called Dormeuse or Sleepers in English. The idea is that they are so comfortable that you can sleep with them and never take them out.
They are certainly extremely versatile and can be worn with any outfit from jeans and casual to smart work or party attire.
Small upper section connected to larger lower drop. The sections are connected via loops that allow the bottoms to swing and sway as the wearer moves. Mounts and backs are solidly yellow gold, but the openwork flowers, conform to antique style and candle lighting requirements - set in white metal (tested as platinum) to show diamonds off to best advantage.
Small, but bright and appealing. Extremely wearable.

Marks and Metal: Eagle head marks on wires of each earring indicate 18k gold, made in Paris. White metal was electronically tested as platinum.
