Vintage Sterling silver win...

Vintage tray / salver / wine or champagne coaster.  Sterling silver. Made in England by Garrard & Co London, 1958.

Measurements:

Salver is 6 1/4 inches across and weighs 176g (5.65 troy oz).

Description:  

Stands on 3 paw feet with shaped knees. Gadrooned border is gently lobed with sloping steps down to the flat part, conforming to the lobes of the border. The tray is engraved

Hallmarks underneath:G&Co Ld; lion passant, leopard head for London, date letter C. Underneath that is the name of the maker: Garrard & Co Ltd; 112 Regent St W.

Condition:

is very good. Minor wear commensurate with age. 

THE STORY:

This beautifully made sterling silver tray was won in a golfing tournament sponsored by the Evening News newspaper and played at Croham Hurst, in England, 17th September 1958.

Garrard & Co. is a legendary British jewellery house with a history as dazzling as its diamonds. Founded in 1735 by George Wickes, it rose to prominence as the first official Crown Jeweller in 1843, appointed by Queen Victoria. For over 160 years, Garrard was entrusted with the upkeep of the British Crown Jewels and crafted iconic pieces for generations of royals.
Amongst their famous creations: 
Royal Creations: Designed the Imperial Crown of India, Queen Mary’s coronation crown, and Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring—now worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales.
