Tiffany & Co antique brooch carved rock crystal cameo gold and platinum (7297)

Antique Tiffany & Co brooch. Carved rock crystal cameo, 18k gold and platinum. Made early 20th century by Tiffany & Co.
Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman.

Measurements: Weight is 18 grams. 6.5cm long.

Description : Rare brooch for two reasons: it was made by Tiffany and Co., probably in the time of Louis Comfort Tiffany himself, and, because beautiful old cameos are highly sought after. Carved rock crystal center. A rectangular cameo at right angles to the long sides of the rectangular mounts. The cameo is carved to depict a beautiful woman or goddess, possibly Ancient Roman or Greek inspired. A lot of detail in the jewelry she is wearing - multiple necklaces, long, drop earrings. Beautifully carved face, seen in profile with fine detail to hair and clothing.
Great quality of cameo carving.
She is surrounded by a border of alternating white and gold (platinum and yellow gold) sections. These are echoed in the border of the transcepts that extend widely to the sides and enclose an openwork platinum foliate design.
Beautiful workmanship. Suitable for a man or a woman.
