Antique Art Nouveau ring. 18k yellow gold and black opal. Made in France by Henri-Victor Miault, circa 1900.
Measurements: approximately US size 7. Length of bezel is approximately 1 1/8 inch (28mm). Weighs 8.5 grams. Length of opal is approximately 3/8 inch (10mm).
Openwork gold foliage curling and overlapping over other leaves rise to form a dome with a wonderful black opal at the apex. The oval black opal is full of color and light with flashes of green and red and a blue-ish ground. Jewelry by Henri-Victor Miault is illustrated in Alastair Duncan's book on Art Nouveau Jewelry pages 114 - 117.
Marks: French eagle head mark for 18k gold. Maker MIAULT is engraved on the shank. Diamond-shaped lozenge for maker is not clearly legible.
