Antique Edwardian ring gold platinum natural turquoise diamonds French (7409)
$5,500.00

Availability:
1 left in stock
Antique late Victorian - Edwardian ring. 18k gold, platinum, cabochon turquoise and diamonds. Made in France circa 1900 -1910.
Independent appraisal.
Measurements: Weight is 6.3 grams. Has an insert that decreases the size to a US 6.5. It can easily be removed if you need a slightly bigger size. Turquoise 3.25ct.
Description : Sumptious cushion shaped cabochon turquoise forms the bezel. The turquoise is a rare natural gem of a wonderful rich tone of turquoise. Natural variations at the curved sides and a small dark ring on one corner, testify to the natural origins of this stone. The turquoise is surrounded by a ring of tightly set Old Cut diamonds that really glisten and gleam as the wearer moves. The shoulders are an openwork design composed of a small flower with a trio of leaves stretching in different directions in a triangular shape. Diamonds are set in platinum, which was the custom at the time. White metal (silver or platinum) shows off diamonds to better effect, especially in candle or gas light. The turquoise and the rest of the mount are in yellow gold.
Very rarely, the inserted sizing ring is also of 18k yellow gold.
Marks and Metal: Outside of shank has French hallmarks: owl and mask for 18k gold and platinum. Unknown maker.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
THE STORY: if you are looking for a statement piece of jewelry that combines the wow factor with elegance and finesse, this is it. The stunning turquoise gem in a lush, cushiony shape will draw every eye. The workmanship surrounding it with the particularly finely set diamonds and delicate shoulders is the perfect foil to the solid turquoise.
We know that the woman who owned this ring was wealthy. Not only the quality of the ring itself speaks about her taste, but the insert tells a story on its own. Today, we can buy similar inserts, made of metal for a couple of dollars. However, this insert is made of gold, matching the gold of the ring. Quite unique.
We are dating the ring to the late Victorian or more likely, the Edwardian era, based not only on the quality of the workmanship and design, but on the use of platinum, which really only became workable at this time.
