Vintage Art Deco Cufflinks for gentleman. 14k rose gold. Chinese good luck. Made circa 1930-50's. Origin unknown - could be China or USA for the Chinese market.

Measurements: Squares approximately 3/4inch (20mm). Weigh 8.4grams.

Square shapes. Gold with strong red tinge. Borders in crimped gold on either side of openwork scrolls, giving a light and airy look. Raised scrolls have appearance of long, thin branches blowing in the wind. Strong sense of movement. The hand- hammered, textured square centers with raised gold Chinese writing - presumably for good luck. Beautifully made and wonderful proportion and balance. Relatively large size, yet light and airy with a strong sense of graceful movement. Sophisticated and beautiful.

Great quality also seen in the backs, with their subtly hinged and moving parts, making insertion into the shirt cuff easier.

Marks: inside one of the cufflinks is hallmarked with engraved initials that look like BAB 14k on one side and two patent numbers: PAT 2093723 and 2544893 on the other.

We looked up the patent, filed by C. H. HONE CUFF LINK Filed Aug. 25, 1934. The purpose is: to simplify former constructions and at the same time provide a structure which will be stronger, more durable and more readily manipulated than prior constructions, and which' may be expeditiously and easily inserted and removed from the most stimy starched cuffs.

Condition: minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged photos for details. Do not hesitate to ask questions, which we will do our best to answer.
