THE STORY:
Tsavorite garnets were originally discovered in Tanzania in the 1960's, but mining only really began in the 1970's in Kenya. Previously unknown, the gems reached stardom when Tiffany & Co began marketing them in the 1970's. Tsavorite garnets are one of the most valuable of garnets, still extremely rare today. Gemologists consider it between 200 to 1,000 times rarer than emerald.
