Very unusual pair of Shabbat (Sabbath) candlesticks made of sterling silver.
Each stands 8 3/4" high.
Very modern, extremely elegant design, unknown date and origin.
Round base, 4" in diameter with green felt glued underneath to prevent damage.
Base slopes upwards to the lower part of the long candlestick which has raised letters in Hebrew: "Shabbat" on one and "Kadosh" on the other.
The rest of the candlestick slopes to a fine neck above which is a slightly flairing bobeche in which to hold the candle.
mark : Each candlestick has a small hallmark.
Under high magnification it looks as though they have a "C" above a "9" in each.
I don't know who the makers are, but most probably European.
condition :
Because of it's high silver content it is very easily dented and has quite a few small dings which do not detract from the aesthetic appeal of the candlesticks.
