Antique Victorian bracelet. 18k gold. Made in Paris, France by Jules / Louis Wiese, 2nd half 19th century. (see below). Measurements: Weight is 37.9 grams. Just under 8 inches (20cm) long. Description : Bracelet consists of 10 identical stations, connected via pairs of broad oval links. Each openwork station consists of overlapping circles with as much emphasis on the negative spaces as the gold. Area within the circles of gold with fine sword-like foliage and berries. Surface of circles is very finely textured. Tongue-in-groove clasp with push-catch, and safety chain for additional security. The name Wiese is synonymous with Gothic and Renaissance Revival. Like all Victorians, they borrowed freely from the lexicon of past eras. In this case, the result is particularly timeless and appealing. As the name promises, the workmanship is impeccable. Amazingly wearable and versatile. Marks and Metal: One of the central stations has WIESE engraved at the back. The tongue of the clasp has the Wiese maker's mark lozenge with star above and below as well as 3 French eagle heads for 18k gold, made in Paris by a known maker. A picture of the identical bracelet is shown, Ka.51a in the book about Jules Wiese by Silke Hellmuth with a date of 1865. However, the maker's mark in the lozenge with star above and below was also used by Jule's son, Louis Wiese. Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
