Measurements: Combined weight is 7.1 grams. Length is 1 5/8 inches (4.5cm). Approximately 2.35ct diamonds. Note: antique diamonds do not conform to modern formulae, so the measurement is approximate and should be seen as a guide or suggestion of magnitude.
Description : Long, elegant dangle drop earrings articulated so that they swing and sway as the wearer moves. The surmounts are colette-enclosed pear-shaped diamonds that lead to a pair of smaller, round diamonds, also colette set. These suspend the drop which starts as a narrow ribbon that widens and curves towards the bottom, where it forms an almost complete half sphere with a diamond at its terminal. This drop is finely pave set with small diamonds in openwork gold. The bottom sphere, with it's largest diamond raised above the surface and openwork gold forming the shape of a spider, bug or other insect.
Earrings with a post for pierced ears and an articulated lever-back catch.
Excellent workmanship and design. Versatile, elegant and glamorous.
Marks and Metal: Marked with 'pineapple' mark - indicates 18k gold. Another mark is assumed to be the maker's mark.
The inside, silk lid of the box is embossed JOYEROS FUSET y GRAU PELAYO 44 BARCELONA.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
THE STORY: Very little has been written about Fuset Y Grau, an amazing jewellery manufacturer in Barcelona, Spain and contemporaries of Lluis Masriera.
Like Masriera, Fuset y Grau were fascinated by the medieval and Renaissance eras and made Revival jewelry in these styles, simultaneously reflecting the Art Nouveau movement and later Art Deco and other periods. Depending on the current partnerships, it was sometimes Fuset alone, sometimes with Grau and/or others. Like Masriera, many pieces are un-signed, but their style and quality are so distinctive that a signature is quite unnecessary to recognise their work.
We are fortunate that this pair of earrings is signed and even luckier that we have the original, fitted box with the name and adress of the company embossed in the lid.
In 1925 Fuset y Grau were invited to participate in the Paris world fair, where they had much success. Following this, we have seen a shift towards the Art Deco style, as is the case of these earrings.
