Antique / vintage Christian pendant cross crucifix on gold chain necklace. 14k yellow gold, enamel and citrine. Exact origin is unknown, stylistic elements suggest a creation period ranging from the late Victorian era to the mid-20th century. The accompanying chain, possibly original to the pendant, appears to be American-made and dates from the early to mid-1900s.
Measurements:
the pendant, including the bale is approx 5.5cm long. Total length of the chain is approx 41.5cm long. Weighs 5.8grams. Citrine is a little over 5mm in diameter.
Description:
The arms of the cross consist of two levels of gold openwork: the outer ovals are solid gold ovals ending in a gold globule. Floating within is a double band of gold bordering a broad line of white enamel. It is possible that the white enamel symbolises purity and that the cross was created for a particular Christian function or ceremony such as a confirmation.
In the center is a round glowing golden citrine that perfectly matches the gold of the cross. A generously sized bale (loop) allows a chain of substantial size to pass through it.
The chain that accompanies the pendant consists of small, tightly fit, secure loops.
A timeless piece blending faith and fine craftsmanship. Versatile and as wearable today as it was when it was made. Classic coloring of gold and white enhance any attire.
Marks:
the chain is hallmarked 14k and there is another tiny, illegible and partially truncated mark - possibly maker. The pendant was also acid tested to ensure that it is at least 14k gold.
Condition:
Good. Very minor surface wear commensurate with age and use. No dings/dents or major issues. Please see enlarged 'photos and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
