Antique Victorian Sterling silver salver / 3-legged tray. Made in Sheffield, England, 1894 by Mappin Brothers.
Measurements:
Measures 12 1/4 inches in diameter. Weighs 765g (27oz).
Description:
This solid and sturdy salver boasts a raised border, exquisitely adorned with repoussé floral and foliate motifs, creating a rich, naturalistic pattern. The three scrolling foliate legs provide both elegance and stability.
The center of the salver is beautifully engraved with an elaborate floral design, featuring shells, ribbons, and swags, all framing a central vacant cartouche—ideal for personalization. The engraving is of exceptional quality, reflecting the artistry of the Victorian era.
Marks and Metal:
Back of the salver is hallmarked with M BROS in a diamond shape. Crown for Sheffield, lion for sterling silver, date letter b for 1894 and the a sun engraved above a circular company logo that reads MAPPIN BROTHERS QUEEN'S WORKS SHEFFIELD around their address: 220 REGENT ST w 66 CHEAPSIDE EC.
