Antique Victorian Pendant 15k Gold Turquoise Diamond Heart Pearl Knot (6035)
Antique Victorian pendant. 15k yellow gold, diamond, pearl and turquoise. Made in England circa 1850-1870.
Measurements: Length, not including the bale is 2cm (3/4inch). Weighs 2.8 grams.
Full of Victorian symbolism, this pendant is as lovely and wearable today as it was about 150 years ago. It consists of a pair of mirror-image wreaths, the foliage set with turquoise in each leaf. Gracefully curving around a heart that swings from a loop suspended from a gold twisted rope in the form of a naval knot. A small natural seed pearl in a colette setting is set in the center of the knot and a diamond set in the heart. A large and sturdy bale allows the pendant to be hung on a delicate or heavy chain. Every aspect of this pendant is full of symbolism and romantic meaning. The color turquoise, reminiscent of forget-me-nots symbolised love, as did the heart and knot. Knots also indicated fidelity. The wreaths could have a naval significance, but were often associated with triumph or victory and might even be symbolic of the memory of a loved one.
Marks: the back has engraved 15Ct.
Condition: very good, especially considering the age of the pendant. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
