Antique Victorian fringe necklace. 21k gold, demantoid garnets and spessartine garnets. Made in England, circa 1870-1885.
Independent gemological appraisal.

Measurements: Weight is 14.7 grams. Approximately 14.5 inches (37cm) long. 11.34ct garnets.

Description : Made during the heyday of the Revivalist era, the necklace is composed of a line of tiny gold beads. Above these gold beads, at intervals of about 1cm, are round, green demantoid garnets, which were discovered in the Urals of Russia around 1850. Dropping in a line from the demantoid garnets is a gold bar, set at the bottom with round orange-colored garnets. These have been described as hessonite or spessartine garnets. The fringe drops alternate long-short for added interest.
The clasp is almost certainly a replacement from the early 1900's.
Color combination is striking and the necklace is as wearable today as it was 150 years ago.
Will brighten up any outfit.

Marks and Metal: No marks on necklace. Gold was electronically tested as 21k. Replaced clasp marked Patent and tests as low gold (9k).

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. As mentioned, clasp is likely a replacement. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

Independent appraisal available to new owner.
