Antique late Victorian - Edwardian earrings ear pendants. Gold, diamonds, certified natural saltwater pearls, enamel.  Made in the United Kingdom, circa late 19th to very early 20th century.

Measurements:

Weight is 5.4 grams. 7/8inch (2.25cm) long, excluding wires. Pearls measue 6.4 6.4 6.7 mm and 6.1 6.0 6.6mm respectively.

Description :

Ear pendants with bow-shaped surmounts, pave set with diamonds that run across the ribbon, including the inside of the loops. Loops suspend pear-shaped drops that swing freely as the wearer moves. Raised on a gold openwork gallery that allows light to shine from all angles of the earrings. The tear-shaped border of mount in gold, set with small rose-cut diamonds  'outlined' on the outside with blue enamel.  Swinging from double loops in the centre of the drops are a pair of natural pearls with a metallic sheen. Drop shape that looks like a bud.  The bottom of each pearl is set with a diamond. Certificate describes pearls as "light brownish silver", but in my opinion, this omits the pinkish tones. Tones vary as the light catches them. Pearls with Gemological Certification (from London) confirming them as natural, saltwater pearls.
Wonderful design and fascinating pearls.
Simple gold wires are easy to insert, comfortable to wear and like most antique earrings, probably replacements.

Marks and Metal:

No marks found. Earrings electronically tested as 15k. The wires tested as 17.7k.

Condition:

Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Minor loss to enamel not visible to the naked eye.  Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

THE STORY:

Natural pearls became 'extinct' when humans polluted the ocean waters in which the mollusks live. As they became increasingly extinct, they became increasingly sought after until today, when even the tiniest natural pearls are considered rare and command much interest and high prices. This is a particularly fascinating pair of pearls with fabulous coloring and sheen.
