Antique Victorian earrings, long ear pendants. Gold amethysts pearls. Made in France, circa 1880.

Measurements: Weight is 10.8 grams. Length approximately 2 inches (5cm) to bottom of fringe, not including the wires.

Description : The earrings consist of lovely purple amethysts, set in their centers with tiny pearls. Links join the round surmounts to an openwork, scrolling, triangular mount that enclose the upper part of the main body of the earrings. These are faceted, round amethysts, also set in gold with little pearls in their center and surrounded by an outer border of small pearls. The fleur-de-lis-shaped gold prongs holding the amethysts are an integral part of the design as they form a strong contrast to the purple. The pearls in white making a perfect foil to the amethysts. A fringe of 7 gold wires leading to small pearls at their tips, are connected via links, allowing each section of the fringe to swing and move independently of the others. Every section of the earrings can move, adding great visual interest.
Simple gold wires are easy to insert and comfortable to wear.
Look like a Greek or Roman Queen - the design of these earrings was inspired by the Ancient Greeks and Romans although amethysts were very popular during the 18-19th centuries.
Fine workmanship and great look. Versatile - they can be worn with your jeans or to look amazing at a party, where their color and movement will attract every eye.

Marks and Metal: Hallmarked on wires. On one earring, the mark is less clear; on the other earring, we see the French eagle head for 18k gold and a lozenge makers mark with initials L N. Test electronically as 18k.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
