Antique Victorian Earrings Gold pearls enamel fringes dangle dance c1850 (7457)

Antique Victorian earrings. Gold, small pearls and enamel. Made circa 1850. Possibly English.

Measurements: Combined weight is 4.4 grams. No counting the wires, approximate length is 1 3/4 inches (a little over 4.5cm). 

Description : Elegant, fun and fabulous pair of earrings. Simple hooked wires lead to a long, simple gold chain from which the main body of the earrings are suspended. The chains enable movement of the earrings and swing and sway as the wearer moves.
The main body of the earrings are influenced by Classic forms - cylindrical bars seeming to be wrapped by a folded saddle or saddle bag, of enamel in cornflower blues and blacks, shown off to great effect against the gold metal and sporting a small pearl in the centre. Painted enamel designs with a Moorish or Persian influence with delicate curlicues, dots and shapes. 
The bottom of the half circle forming the body of the earrings is hung with articulated fringes (again the eastern, saddle bag theme). Long gold bars with golden globules at their terminals. Each section can move independently and give the appearance of dancing with every little movement. Their graduated lengths perfectly balance the upper enamelled section.

The earrings are light and very comfortable to wear. Full of fun and movement, they are an absolute delight. 

Marks and Metal: No marks found. Antique gold is not homogenous, but tests electronically, as 14k. 

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age and use. A small spot of missing enamel only noticeable with a loupe and highly magnified in the pictures.  Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.  

THE STORY: when I saw these earrings, I was stunned by their beauty and rare form. The owner was reluctant to sell them and it took a lot of nagging and persuasion for him to change his mind and 'allow' me to buy them from him. One simply does not find earrings with this unusual design and aesthetic appeal very often.
