Antique Victorian / Art Nouveau dangle earrings. 18ct gold (see below), enamel, diamonds and a tiny bit of silver. Made in England, Great Britain, circa 1885-1910 - the cusp of the Victorian / Nouveau / eras.

Measurements: Weight is 7.2 grams. 5/8 inches (1.5cm) long, not including the wires.

Description : Cute, romantic, sentimental - small earrings in the form of bows with heart drops. The entire surface of the bows and hearts is in red and white guilloche enamel with gold highlights and a small diamond in a silver colette. At the time, jewelry was made in gold, but diamonds were set in silver for better effect in candle or gas light. It's a testimony to the quality of these little earrings that even these small diamonds were calculated to show off to advantage.
Borders are in white enamel with gold highlights and dots. Beautiful combination - small but very rich effect.
Like most Victorian earrings, the wires are replacements. They are 10ct gold, while the earrings themselves are 15ct - the standard at the time in the UK.
Earrings like this are the perfect accessory for every day or a party. They are full of movement which will attract every eye, as will the luxurious red and gold. The guilloche enamel is perfectly wonderful - gleaming and glowing and adding another element to draw the eye.

Marks and Metal: Backs of earrings are marked 18ct; replaced wires are marked 10ct.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

THE STORY: The Victorians were great gift givers and clearly these earrings were given to someone who filled the heart of the giver. They were exceptionally well cared for as we see by the great condition of the enamel. Youthful and fun.
