Antique late Victorian bangle. Gold filled. Made late 19th century. 
 

Measurements:

Weight is 6.5 grams. Outside width approximately 2 1/4 inches. 

Description :

Oval bangle. Gold filled. Upper half of the bangle engraved on the outside with pretty patterns of flowers and scrolls. Lower half is undecorated.
Small thumb piece to facilitate clasp. Clicks closed. Secure.  


Marks and Metal:

JJS engraved inside bangle. 
     

Condition:

Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Light surface scratching visible with a loupe/magnifying glass. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.   

THE STORY:

During the Victorian era, it was common for children, from the youngest age to be dressed with jewelry. In particular, gold bangles were popular. It was especially common to use gold-filled metal, which was a substantial layer of gold over a layer of another metal such as silver.
