THE STORY:
During the 19th century, there was no need to explain the symbolism of flowers, animals and birds. Everyone knew what they meant. For example, a dog was a symbol of loyalty as well as being a beloved pet. Swallows had a variety of meanings and significance, immediately recognisable to every Victorian. To the Victorians, swallows were a symbol of good luck, safe journeys, love and safe returns. They were therefore especially valued by people who travelled and sailors. More importantly, swallows, being a symbol of love and devotion are the perfect bridal or wedding jewelry.
