Measurements: As per Marcilhac, the brooch measures 5.5cm long and 3.5cm at highest point. Weight is 28.0 grams.
Description : Called deux figurines dos a dos in French (two figurines back to back). The brooch is made of pastel blue glass, like cornflowers, with light opalescence and inner glow.
Scalloped and curving oval shape. The mould, numbered 596 depicts two identical nude woman, bent over at the back, facing away from one another. They sit in a field of flowers and poppies. Lingering influence of the Art Nouveau movement with the sinuous forms, botanical background and feminine subject. The glass is set in a gilt metal mount, entirely closed at the back and with a sturdy hinge and c-clasp.
This is a fabulous example of the mastery of Rene Lalique both as a designer, artist and creater of fabulous glass. As wearable today as it was over 100 years ago. Utterly beautiful.
Marks and Metal: LALIQUE engraved in script on the back of the brooch.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Light wear to the gilding of the metal. No chips/cracks to the glass. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
