Antique Queen Anne Early Georgian Ring 18k Gold Rubies Unisex Man or Woman(7154)
Antique Queen Anne or early Georgian ring. 18k gold and rubies. Made early 18th century (1700's) in Italy. Unisex - suitable for a man or woman.
Measurements: Weight is 4.4 grams. US size 10.75 - large size suitable for a large finger, or a gloved hand. Approximately 7mm at widest point (top of bezel).
Description : A genuine piece of history, about 300 years old. Gold band - like a wedding ring for today. The shank consists of paralell gold bands: a gently beaded tiny middle section; gold rope twist on either side followed by outer bands of miniscule flowered and rope twist cylindrical borders. The fine detail is something only found in really early jewelry - beautiful details not even visible to the naked eye. The bezel or top of the ring consists of a row of individually set rubies. Simple rose cuts, but have a beautful bright pink-red color. Their settings are typical of early jewelry - gold is simply pulled up around the ruby, but has the additional detail of a jagged or hounds-tooth edge. The bezel is bordered by a curving oval outer ring of tiny raised gold globes. Suitable to wear as a wedding ring. Suitable to be worn alone or to be stacked with other rings. The back of the shank has a plain gold section, probably indicating an early resizing.
Marks and Metal: No marks. Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age and use. See above re resizing. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Stones were tested with Presidium Duotester and confirmed as rubies.
