Antique Georgian Empire handpainted miniature portrait painting. Original old frame. Made in France, circa 1800-1812 during the First Empire period of Napoleon and Josephine Bonaparte.

Measurements: frame is a little over 2 inches wide X 2 5/8inches long; painting 1 1/4 X 1 7/8 inches

Description: Handpainted watercolor painting. A woman is seated on a wooden chair, facing 3/4 view. On her lap is a baby or toddler - grabbing one of her hands, while the other holds out a blue handkerchief. The woman is dressed in typical French Empire style - white, high waisted with a pinkish red scarf partially draped around her shoulders and partially forming a frame around her legs. The colors are very typical of Josephine's fashion trend - pink, blue and white. Woman's dark curls held by a ribbon, also typical of the period. Blond curls of baby. A basket of needlework at her feet and a toy rocking horse stands next to them. Blue silk shoes and ribbons strewn about.
An intimate view of a mother and child over 200 years ago.

The frame is made of various natural materials, centred by a brass inner border with very pretty design. Metal loop to hang picture. Back is closed.

Signed on the lower right DIAZ.

Condition: considering the age of this miniature portrait painting, it is in very good condition. Minor wear and flaws (especially to outer frame) shown clearly in the pictures. Please don't hesitate to ask questions.
