Antique Victorian miniature wood furniture in the form of a desk or cabinet that actually serves as a watch stand. Made 19th century.
Comes from the estate of the late Beverly Sills, famous opera singer and society beneficiary.
Measurements:
Measures 8 inches across and 6 inches to the top of the arch.
Description:
Miniature wooden chest or desk. Well constructed with rounded and stepped edges and inlaid wood with veneer patterning. A hook for hanging a fob watch above an inset circle.
The left side is a miniature cupboard, the right a miniature pair of drawers. Wood inlay designed so that they look identical from the outside. However, the left side swings open on hinges and closes with a little latch. If you look very carefully on the inside (where your knee would go were you to sit at the piece), there is a tiny hole. The right side drawers are constructed in typical Victorian style, with dovetailed joints.
