Antique Imperial Russian Ring 14k Gold Diamonds Silver Art Nouveau (7061)
Antique Imperial Russian Art Nouveau ring. 14k gold over silver, diamonds. Made in Russia, 1908-1917.
Measurements: Weight is 4.8 grams. US size 8.5. Length of bezel is a tad over an inch (2.6cm). 1.54ct diamonds.
Description : A line of 3 round diamonds runs diagonally along the finger, the largest in the middle. The diamonds are set above a gold frame and have the appearance of floating in the air. These diamonds are held in prongs. On either side of them, running in opposite directions away from the center, is a scroll of smaller, pave set diamonds, held in a border of filigree silver and with twisting ends set with raised, larger, prong-set diamonds that also form a line with the central, biggest gem. Shoulders narrow to a point and are also set with pave set stones in filigree silver. Silver is placed over gold and after the shoulders, the rest of the shank is gold. Scrolling, Art Nouveau rings seem to have been very popular in Russia during the period around 1900. While this ring is larger than most ring of its kind, it is very well made and has a light and delicate appearance. This combination of lines or pillars and scrolls are called 'volute' rings by the French. Eminently wearable and suitable for every outfit by day or night. Perfect as an engagement or wedding ring.
Marks and Metal: The shank has been fully hallmarked. looking from Left to Right depending on which side you hold it: Round mark with woman's head facing right. This mark was used from 1908-1827. A shovel mark with 56 for 14k gold, the head facing right and an assay office mark that looks like M. A mark with initials M?. A mark with more letters in Cyrillic that appear as M and cojoined HO and then 3. Circle with P. Another shovel with 583, head facing right and triangle for Moscow city. Finally 875 which indicates 21carat gold.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. One minute spot that could be solder visible only with a loupe and mentioned for the sake of accuracy.
