Antique Georgian pair Dutch Delft plates faience blue and white tin glaze (2886)

Antique Georgian pair of Dutch Delft faience tin glazed plates. Made in the Netherlands / Holland early 19th century.

Measurements: just under 9 inches in diameter.

Description: Blue and white plates with yellow ochre rims.  Each plate is beautifully painted with large flowers and scrolling foliage in concentric rings.  Clear influence of old Chinese porcelain on the design. At the time, Europeans were still learning to make porcelain and the only ceramics were cruder clay. The glazes available were not as fine as those developed much later in Europe. For centuries, the Chinese held the secrets of their porcelain manufature. These delicate old plates are impressive for their beauty and for their survival over so many years.

Marks: No marks found. 

Condition: Good condition considering their age and delicate nature of the ceramic clay. There is fritting and small chips to the rims, clearly shown magnified in the 'photos.
