Antique Georgian French Earrings 18k Gold Diamonds Long Ear Pendants (7006)
Antique Georgian French Earrings 18k Gold Diamonds Long Ear Pendants (7006)
Antique late Georgian ear pendants earrings. 18k gold, diamonds and a touch of black enamel and silver. Made in France circa 1830.
Measurements: Weight is 7.6 grams (combined). Length is approximately 2 1/8 inches (6.5cm) not including the wires.
Description : Long and elegant ear pendants. Surmounts with rounded curves and a central, pear-shaped rose cut diamond held in a silver colette mount, typical of French work of the Georgian era. The silver is surrounded by a tiny border of black enamel. Gold links suspend a long drop of curving, scrolling gold with openwork scrolls at the botoom and engraved in a raised middle section. A trio of round rose cut diamonds held in silver form a little pyramid, also enclosed in a tiny border of black enamel. Silver was always used to set off diamonds to greatest effect and almost all gold jewelry of the period would have the diamonds set in silver for that reason. Simple gold wires make inserting the earrings in the ears easy and the light weight makes them comfortable to wear. Earrings are very elegant and attractive. Beautifully made. Totally feminine, they can be worn with any outfit from jeans to the opera or a great party. Suitable for people of all ages, they are as versatile and lovely today as they were 200 years ago.
Marks and Metal: Eagle head for 18k gold. Lozenge appears to read H & C.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Minor loss to enamel is very difficult to see unless you are looking very closely with a loupe. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
