THE STORY:
There are many symbols of love, but the heart, hands and crown are amongst the most popular. They are often incorporated in a very special kind of Friendship jewelry, especially rings. These rings are known as Fede or Friendship rings. They usually depict a pair of clasped hands, which symbolise friendship, love or betrothal.
This ring was a type of promise ring often exchanged by lovers at the time of their engagement. There are many variations of the fede ring, but one of the most popular is the clasped hands, heart and crown.
These rings were brought to Ireland a few hundred years ago, where they are known as Claddagh ring. The Claddagh Ring represents love (heart), friendship (hands), and loyalty (crown). These three elements form a powerful symbol of commitment and enduring affection.
We bought this ring in Paris, France and it has the French sea-shell mark for 14k gold. However, it would not be surprising if the ring originated elsewhere and was later assayed in France.
