A pair of loops links the surmount to the drops, allowing the drops to swing and sway as the wearer moves. the drops are round and partially openwork with a cannetille and globular gold openwork border containing a pretty purple flower, set with amethysts and a small pearl in the middle. Minutely beaded borders to the colette mounts, as the mount in the surmount.
Wires are almost certainly replacements made for ease of wear and greater strength.
Versatile, wearable, very well made.

No marks found. Earrings were electronically tested as 18-19k gold. Replaced wires are 10k for extra strength.

THE STORY:

cannetille is usually associated with gold work of the 1920's, made in England. However, we believe that these are slightly later. Cannetille was a method of working gold wires to give the appearance of much more gold than truly existed. It is 3-dimentional (as opposed to regular filigree) and amazingly well survived despite its delicate appearance.
