Antique Edwardian Belle Epoque ring. Platinum, Iridium, diamonds. Made very early 20th century. Measurements: Weight is 3.8 grams. US size 5. 0.98ct diamonds. Description : Gleaming and shiny diamond ring with strong geometricyet lacy design. Old European cut diamonds set in filigree platinum mount. Each diamond enclosed in platinum in a variety of geometric and leafy shapes, forming geometric designs within designs. Lovely use of negatve spaces, which also result in increased play of light. Design is both very sturdy and lacy. Bezel curves around the finger with the central stones subtlely raised above the borders. The band with engraved designs around the entire surface. Central diamond, typical of very old cut diamonds is very deep in pavillion and crown and rises above the central relief of the ring. A beautiful example of rings of this sort, more aesthetically attractive than is usually found and with very good workmanship. Highly versatile, this ring will make a perfect engagement or wedding ring. Iridium alloy (10%) makes platinum even harder and more durable than platinum alone. From the late 19th century, platinum replaced silver as the perfect setting for diamonds. Marks and Metal: 10% IRID PLAT. Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Professional, independent gemological appraisal.
