Antique Edwardian earrings ear pendants. 14k yellow gold, silver, amethysts and diamonds. Made circa 1900 to 1910. Possibly United Kingdom. Independently appraised.
Measurements: Weight is 5.6 grams. Length, not including wires 1 3/8 inches (3.5cm). Amethysts 12.32ct; diamonds 0.31ct.
Description : Small colette-set diamond surmounts. Tiny loops suspend a long, pear-shaped drop. The upper part is calyx-shaped as though holding a bud. It is set with tiny rosecut damonds. As was the manner of Victorian and Edwardian jewelry, diamonds were set in silver in order to show them off to best effect. Emerging from the 'calyx' is a long, briolette amethyst. We call these Siberian amethysts due to the intense purple color that rates these gems head and shoulders above most amethyst jewelry. The deep purple color is lit as though from within, depending on the way the light falls on the stones.
Simple gold wires are easy to insert and comfortable to wear. These earrings are quite fabulous largely due to the intense color of the gems, which have become increasingly rare as buyers appreciate their deep tones and contrast to more readily available mid-tone amethysts. They are highly versatile and wearable and will look great on a very young lady in her jeans, a businesswoman in her suit or anyone at all going off to the opera or fancy party.
Marks and Metal: No marks. Gold was electronically tested to ensure metal purity.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
Independent appraisal available to new owner.
