The bezel is raised above the level of the finger by an openwork linear-patterned grille that allows light to enter from behind the stones and adds brilliance and sparkle.

THE STORY:
Kashmir sapphires are the most coveted of all sapphires. They were found in the Himalayas in the 1880's and within a decade, they were mined out. They are therefore very rare. Kashmir sapphires are famous for their exceptional color and velvety blue appearance, all of which are displayed in this gem. Kashmir sapphires are usually associated with royalty and today, they can sell in the millions of dollars.
The 585 mark for 14k gold was used since 1884 in Germany and a little later by other European countries. This ring came from a German collection, so it is likely that it originated in Germany.
