Antique water / lemonade pitcher jug. Cut glass and sterling silver. Made late 19th - early 20th century by Bailey, Banks and Biddle, Philadelphia, USA.
10 1/4 inches high. Diameter of base is 5 1/4 inches.
Cylindrical shape, tapering towards the top. Very heavy cut glass from the American Brilliant Cut Glass era. Rich, deep cutting in a variety of patterns. Sturdy cut glass handle. Starburst bottom. The upper portion of the pitcher is encased in a marvelous silver collar with scrolling waves of acorns, oak leaves and flowers in high relief. Wonderful detail and design against the smooth upper edge and the cut glass below.
Engraved Bailey Banks & Biddle, Company pictorial symbol or logo, STERLING 109 PAT 96 (presumably the patent was 1896).
generally good condition. I found 3 tiny nibbles to the cut glass and there is a flaw/ding on a join in the silver (see 'photos).
