Antique Chinese blue white porcelain bottle vase w Dutch silver lid 19C (4048)

Antique double gourd bottle or vase. Porcelain and silver. Made in China and the Netherlands, 19th century. 

Measurements:

Height including the silver top is almost 8 inches; porcelain alone is 6 1/4 inches high.

Description:

Small vessel in classic blue and white Chinese porcelain. Very elegant double gourd shape. Round base with a bulbous bottom section narrowing to a round waist from which an elongated shape like a spring onion rises to a very narrow mouth. The porcelain is beautifully handpainted with a variety of animal and plant life: dragonflies and other insects hover over a goldfish (khoi) swimming through flowers such as anemones and foliage or seaweed. The blue painting is very sensitively done and the color ranges in tone from deep and bright to light and sensitive.

The mouth of the vessel is covered with a removable Dutch silver cap.  This matches the undulating shape of the bottle. The silver band around the rim is cut into a scalloped, zig-zag, it leads to concentric tubular forms narrowing towards an onion-domed point with engraved foliage detail.
 
Marks and Metal:

 The silver cap has two marks: the sword mark used for silver in the Netherlands and an 'A' under a star. This could be the date year for 1835 which fits the period, or a mark with another significance. The feather painted in blue under the vessel, mentioned above is of unknown significance.

Condition:

 Porcelain is in very good condition with no damage of any sort found. The silver has some small dings on the outer, more sensitive area of the widest tube and there is a small split in the same area.
