Antique Art Nouveau pendant. 14k gold, platinum, diamonds, pearls and shaded enamel. Believed to be made in the United Kingdom, circa 1900 - 1910.
Measurements: Weight is 6.8 grams. Length of pendant approximately 2 3/4 inches (7cm) from bottom to top pearl.
Description : This marvellous pendant combines Art Nouveau and high quality late Victorian/Edwardian workmanship. Classic Art Nouveau design with overlapping loops and curves. A pair of 'wings' near the top at the sides is enamelled in orange toning down to yellow and suspends an arching, pear-shaped bright green enamelled foliate tri-lobe terminal. This is contained within an oval loop, pave set with diamonds that rises to overlap the enamelled wings and forms a pair of smaller, more curved wings, all set with diamonds above them. A single larger diamond nestles between the diamond wings. Pearl drops suspended from small gold loops swing and sway independently of the rest of the pendant.
Shaded enamel was another feature typical of the late 19th - early 20th century, with colors toning into one another giving a beautiful, artistic and naturalistic effect.
This kind of workmanship was only to be seen in jewelry made by the very elite late Victorian jewellers.
A gold and platinum chain of elongated links, typical of the late Victorian / Art Nouveau era leads from the diamond wings to an apex with a pearl-set bale.
The accompanying chain is only for the buyer's convenience, not associated with the pendant and not gold.
Flaring and overlapping wings were popular themes during the Art Nouveau era. For example, item 184 a gold, enamel, gem and pearl brooch by Henry Wilson, London.
Marks and Metal: the pendant was electronically tested to be 14k gold and platinum. The chain is not gold.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Pearls were not tested for origin. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
