Antique Art Nouveau Victorian etui bodkin case sewing chatelaine accessory. Sterling silver. Made circa 1895-1905 by Unger Brothers (1872-1910), Newark, New Jersey.

Measurements: a tad under 6 1/2 inches long; weighs 27.2 grams.

Triangular in shape, tapering towards the bottom.  The entire top surface is luxuriously embellished in repousse silver decoration with scrolls, flowers and an exquisite semi-nude figure of a woman. She has a band around her forehead, a sumptuous pendant necklace and top, her diaphenous garments revealing her body below. Flowing hair seemingly melts into the surrounding details. Exquisitely designed and executed.  Sculpted in classic Art Nouveau style which dates the etui to 1895-1905.
A hook at the back near the top in order to hang from a chatelaine.

An etui held household implements, especially sewing accessories. A bodkin was a large needle sewing tool for threading ribbons or lace.

Marks: Unger Bros interlaced U & B as well as STERLING 925 FINE.

Condition: good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see 'photographs and don't hesitate to ask questions.
