Antique Victorian locket bracelet. 18k gold. Locket compartment for hair or miniature portrait. Made circa 1870. Comes in the original, fitted box with leather outside, silk and velvet inside.
Measurements: Length, not including the tongue of the clasp, is 7 inches. Oval medallion is approx. 2inchs long. Strap is 12mm (just under 1/2 inch) wide. Weighs 43.2 grams.
An exquisitely made strap, comprised of tightly set parallel links, joined by diagonal rope-twist border. In the center, placed on top of the wrist/arm is a locket. Surrounded by a rube of gold, attached by scrolling foliate links with engraved detail. The outer top of the locket is very finely engraved in a scrolling floral pattern. Clasp and hinge are in good order. The blue silk lined inner compartment is waiting for a fabulous 'photo or miniature portrait. A very similar pair of bracelets, was worn by Queen Victoria: one had her portrait and the other, which she never removed, the portrait of her beloved Albert. An easy to insert clasp and a safety chain make the bracelet convenient to wear and yet secure. Quality of workmanship is tops.
Marks: no hallmarks, but acid tested and gold stays for 18ct. Inside of the box has green embossed: ANDw. CAMPBELL GOLDSMITH AND WATCHMAKER 63 CHEAPSIDE LONDON.
Condition: very good considering the age. No damage/restorations were found. Negligible wear, commensurate with age.
